No Heat Or Airflow? Consider These Issues And Solutions

If you don't feel warm air coming out of your furnace or air moving through your air vents, find a solution to your problems quickly. Your furnace or air vents may have serious problems to fix. Learn why you don't feel heat or air moving through your home below.

What Could Be Wrong?

Heating equipment, such as large gas furnaces, can become old and outdated over time. Venting systems can also experience serious issues during the year. Both of the issues previously mentioned can affect how warm and clean your home feels in the winter.

One of the first things you want to look for is dirt in your heating system. Dirt can pile up inside and outside your furnace and air vents throughout the year. Although most of the dirt passes through the system during operation, small amounts of dirt can clog up your furnace and air vents during the day. Small clogs can reduce the amount of warm air flowing through your home.

Be sure to turn off your furnace before you check it for dirt. Inspect the surfaces of your heater and air vents carefully. If you locate clogs in the system, gently remove them with warm, soapy water and a soft brush. After you allow the surfaces of your furnace and air vents to dry, turn on your heating system.

If you still experience problems with heat or airflow, consult an HVAC contractor today.

What Could You Do?

Dirt may not be the only serious problem you have with your heating system and vents. A broken furnace wheel, motor, or heat exchanger may also be the reason for your heating issues. Your furnace could also have hidden problems to discover, such as a discolored flame or rusted flue. An HVAC contractor will need to isolate the problems with your heating system by checking each component for damage.

If a contractor locates cracks, dents, or extremely damaged parts inside your furnace, replace or repair the parts immediately. Your heating system may eventually stop working in the future.

If a contractor can't keep your furnace running properly with the solutions above, upgrade your furnace, air vents, and other heating components right away. It may simply be time to replace your current furnace and components with new equipment.

If your furnace or air vents leave your home feeling cold in the winter, contact a heating services contractor for more information.
